Yvonne Ione Sandell

Yvonne Ione Sandell (née Rieder), age 80, of Mounds View, passed away on March 7, 2026. A dedicated educator, she retired after 36 years as a kindergarten teacher in Spring Lake Park District 16.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Henry Rieder and Ione Marianne (Krampitz), sisters-in-law Barbara Coats and Judy Hengstler, and nephew Steven Hengstler.

Yvonne will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 58 years, Paul Sandell; her brother, Chuck Rieder (Julie Lund); her cousin, Rick Wallace (Julie); nephews Timothy (Ann) Hengstler, Greg (Lana) Hengstler, Charles (Paula) Hengstler, Ken (Dawn) Coats, and Brian (Vicki) Coats; and her special niece, Annie (Andy) Rheineck, along with many other relatives and dear friends.

She and Paul shared a rich life of travel, exploring the history of every state they visited across the United States. They cherished cross-country skiing on the North Shore during the holidays, and Yvonne was a 35-year supporter of the Guthrie Theatre. Paul often took her boating on Lake Minnetonka, and in later years they enjoyed several trips to Europe as well as memorable cruises in the Caribbean and Alaska. Their annual Christmas visits to Watertown and Delano brought them the warmth and comfort of extended family. The family extends deep gratitude to Dr. George Canas for his 30 years of compassionate and expert care as Yvonne’s kidney specialist.
