Preserve forever →Wyatt “Biff” Barnes Cosby III
York, ME
Wyatt Barnes Cosby, third of his name, known to all as Biff, was born on November 10, 1949, in Allston, Massachusetts, and passed away peacefully at home in York, Maine, on March 9, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Though he made his home in Maine, Biff embodied the spirit of “Live Free or Die.” A perfect day for him began with morning coffee alongside his wife Mary while his sons Matthew and Andrew played guitar nearby, followed by a ride on his Harley along the backroads to Laconia, New Hampshire. There he would share dinner with old friends and return with another story to tell. Born in Allston, he moved frequently as a child before spending time in Detroit, Michigan, where he absorbed a blue-collar toughness and generous heart that stayed with him always. As a teenager he returned to Allston, forming lifelong friendships on the corner of Franklin and Holton Streets in front of Honey Farms. It was there that he met his beloved wife, Mary.
Biff began working at thirteen, driving a moving truck, and soon bought his first Harley, a passion that never faded. He spent more than thirty years as a concrete truck driver for McNamara Concrete, later known as Aggregate Industries, in Boston, where he forged many enduring friendships. Whether behind the wheel of a truck or on his motorcycle, the road remained his lifelong calling. He loved and protected his family with fierce pride, finding his greatest joy in watching his sons perform live on stage, dancing with Mary in the kitchen to Motown, and sharing his deep love of music with them. Journey, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones, played loud, were among his favorites. He cherished visits to Martha’s Vineyard to see Matthew and his partner Kelsey, cruising the beach in their Jeep and swimming in the Atlantic. An accomplished cook, Biff’s famous Cosby Cookies were eagerly anticipated each holiday, and he delighted in hosting backyard barbecues, lobster bakes, and his legendary annual Meatball Run for his motorcycle friends. Steady, dependable, and resourceful, he could fix nearly anything and never failed to show up for those who counted on him. He built a full life through hard work, loyalty, and love, facing his battle with cancer with grit, dignity, and his characteristic humor until the very end.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary McAuliffe Cosby; his sons Andrew and Matthew and daughter-in-law Kelsey; his sisters Gloria Cosby Molinari and Joy Cosby Wallace; his brother-in-law Edward McAuliffe; his sisters-in-law Maureen McAuliffe, and Barbara McCauley and her husband Ronald McCauley; and many dear friends, nieces, and nephews. Special gratitude is extended to his closest friends Joe Arena and Kevin Quinn for their steadfast presence and support throughout his illness. Those who knew him will always remember him as larger than life, forever riding the open road with the wind at his back.
