She was born in Jackson, Mississippi to John David and Willia Patricia (Wright) Bennett.After spending her early years growing up in the Belhaven neighborhood in Jackson, she and her mom followed her father during his stateside military service. Her father served as a Captain in the USMC during WWII. As an attorney, he was commissioned quickly after boot camp. The two continued living in California after he was deployed to the Pacic, and later China before returning in late 1945.She attended high school at All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg and then returned to Jackson to attend college at Millsaps College.Worth met Bernard in 1951, and they were married in Canton, Mississippi in 1954.After he began flying for TWA, they relocated to Kansas City suburbs with their two sons, and the couple later moved to Memphis, Tennessee. During those years in Memphis, Worth owned and operated a shop which offered linens, and gifts. Customers truly enjoyed a unique experience as compared with most Mid-South stores.Shortly before retirement, they moved to Point Clear and spent years on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, and enjoyed living in both Daphne and Fairhope. It was such an enjoyable chapter in their lives with their friends, and all the visits from family and everyone. They travelled around the USA, and many countries, and had a special time and connection to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Bernard Van Zandt; and her parents, John David and Willia Patricia (Wright) Bennett. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Janice Pearl Cox (Hayden); sons, David Mims Van Zandt (Lucy) and John Bernard Van Zandt (Gwen); grandchildren, Lauren Worth Krau, Phillip Nelson Van Zandt, Robert Mims Van Zandt and Ellen Kate Hamilton (Kevin); great-grandchildren, Ava Rose Kraus, Cooper Van Zandt and Everett Van Zandt.The family will announce any planned services at a later date for Alabama State Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
