Woody Hamon ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Billings Funeral Home - Woodward on Mar. 6, 2026.Wendell Woodrow (Woody) Hamon, Jr., 87 year old Woodward resident, died on March 6, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at the First Methodist Church with Reverend Daniel Rickman officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Marine Corp.Woody was born to Wendell W. and Marjorie Etta Hamon on July 30, 1938 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Woody was raised in Corpus Christi, graduating from W.B. Ray High School in May, 1956. He attended Texas A&M University for the year of 1957. Woody enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 28, 1958 and served two years active duty; fourteen months on the island of Okinawa. After serving two years active duty, Woody was released from active duty to return to Reynolds Metals to work in the plant process laboratory analyzing various plant process samples as a Laboratory Technician.After serving four years of inactive duty in the Marine Corps Reserve, Woody was honorably discharged on January 27, 1964, from the United States Marine Corps.Woody met the absolute love of his life Patricia Faye Neill on June 9, 1962. After a whirlwind courtship, they eloped to be married on August 9, 1962. To this union, two children were born; a son Trey Wendell in 1963, and his beautiful little red-headed daughter, Jana Gay in 1964. They set up home in Portland, Texas where they lived until July, 1976. Woody returned to College in 1965 attending night school at Del Mar Jr. College. Working full time, Woody continued his education graduating on May 14, 1971 with as Associate in Arts Degree.While attending night school, Woody went to work for PPG Industries, Corpus Christi Research Division in September 1968. PPG transferred Woody and his family to Woodward, Oklahoma in July 1976 to assist in the start up of a new Iodine Manufacturing Plant. Woody worked for Woodward Iodine Corporation until May, 1990, then moved to the largest Iodine Manufacturing Center in the North American Hemisphere as Vice-President of Manufacturing and Plant Manager. Woody retired from Iochem Corporation on July 30, 2003 at the age of 65, to enter the ministry of the United Methodist Church. Woody's first assignment was the Alva Otterbein United Methodist Church. Woody has since served as an interim Retired Local Pastor at the Cheyenne Valley and Waynoka United Methodist Churches. He has also served as an interim Retired Local Pastor at St. Paul's United Methodist in Boise City and the Kenton United Methodist Church.Woody is survived by his son Trey Wendell and wife Kellie of Oklahoma City; his daughter Jana Gay Hamon Sheets and husband Maurice Sheets; three very precious grandchildren, Tate Allen Hamon of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Elizabeth Lee Sheets and Jae Danielle Sheets of Wichita, Kansas; three great-grandchildren: Eris Sheets, Brooks Hamon and Riley Hamon; one sister, Marjorie Michele and her husband Bruce Howard of Corsicana, Texas; two nephews, Scott and Stephanie Neill of Flower Mound, Texas, and Craig and Beth Neill of New Braunfels, Texas.Woody leaves many friends from his high school graduating class of 1956, his many colleagues he worked with for the past 43 years and many, many friends from Northwest Oklahoma, and all the Churches he was a Pastor to. Woody learned late in life the biblical verse from Joshua 24:15 "But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
