Winnefred Earl Briggs, 60, of Coleman, passed away on March 9, 2026. He was born on July 27, 1965, in Abilene, Texas, to Winnefred E. Briggs Sr. and Jewel Briggs. Earl, as he was affectionately known, graduated from Big Flame School in 1985. He participated enthusiastically in the Special Olympics throughout his school years and took great pride in the gold medal he earned in the softball throw.
As an only child, Earl formed a deep and lasting bond at age 23 with Brenda and Deborah, whom he immediately called his sisters. They, in turn, lovingly referred to him as their “favorite little brother,” and the three remained close for the rest of his life. Earl was known for his cheerful and kind nature; everyone who met him quickly grew to love him. He looked forward each week to his job at the JCI Sheltered Workshop, which brought him genuine joy. Over the years he lived in several group homes and was cared for by many devoted caregivers, with Fernando, Amelia, Penny, and his nurse Lacey holding especially dear places in his heart.
Earl is survived by his sisters Brenda and Deborah, his special friend Lori, and his Sunday school teacher Sherry Preas. His family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Kinder Hearts Hospice and Lake Hills Nursing Home during his final days.
