Ripley, WV
Jeannie Smith (Milam), 67, of Ripley, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on March 13, 2026.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, she was a proud graduate of Ripley High School. Jeannie was the beloved wife of Bill Smith, sharing 43 devoted years of marriage. She was a wonderful mother to Justin Smith and Sierra Cossin, and a proud and loving grandmother to Addyson, Brantley, and Calla Cossin, and Garrett Smith. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. The youngest of two brothers and five sisters, she was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Marie Milam, her brother Shelby Milam, and her sister Margaret Haynes.
For many years Jeannie was a loving stay-at-home mother, raising her children and caring for her family, a role she cherished above all others. At the age of 50 she returned to school and became a respiratory therapist at Roane General Hospital, a testament to her determination and strong spirit. She loved the outdoors, finding joy in tending her flower beds and garden, fishing, beach trips, kayaking, and side-by-side adventures with her closest friends. Anything involving friendly competition brought out her playful determination to win.
Those who knew Jeannie remember her as a kind and generous soul who made everyone feel welcome and loved. She attended Allens Fork Community Church, and her family finds comfort in her salvation. Her love remains in the flowers she planted, the memories she created, and in the hearts of all who were blessed to call her wife, mother, and grandmother.
