Willie Mae Peterson Lewis, affectionately known as “Grandma Willie Mae,” passed away on March 4, 2026, at the age of 90. She was the devoted wife of the late George Lewis, Sr., and the loving daughter of the late McKinley and Mable Peterson. A woman of deep faith, she found her eternal rest in the presence of the Lord.
Willie Mae was a cherished mother to her children: Gregory, Gerald, Donald, the late George Jr., David, and Bernadette Lewis. She was the dear sister of Ida Mae Tolbert, John Holmes Sr., Bernice Holloway, Ann Peterson, Howard, Earl, Ernestine, Edna, William, and McKinley Jr. She was also the granddaughter of Floyd and Louizer Ellison.
She leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a large, loving family of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts. Her life touched many through her church family at Irish Channel Fellowship and Second Morning Star Baptist Church, as well as her colleagues at Quest Diagnostics and Carpenters Local Union #1846.
