William Thomas Bishop

William Thomas Bishop, age 90, of Buchanan, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born in Haralson County, Georgia, on March 10, 1936, Thomas was the son of Hezekiah and Mary Vessie Garner Bishop. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Norma Kimball Bishop, his sister Betty Bishop Bennett, and his brothers George, Horace, Charles, Homer, Walter, and Kenneth Bishop.

Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Army before retiring from General Motors in 1989 after 30 years of dedicated service. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. To his grandchildren he was simply “Grandpa,” and he found great joy in traveling, hunting, fishing, gardening, and water skiing.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Bishop; his son, Richard (Pam) Bishop; his daughter, Cindy (Steve) Worthy; grandchildren Lance (Jennifer) Maxwell, Chad Bishop, Kristen (Brandon) Barnes, Jessica (Jared) Pervis, and Amy (Brian) LeHeup; great-grandchildren Temperance, Lincoln, and Hudson Barnes, Adeline Pervis, and Avery and Blakely LeHeup; and his sister, Lorene Heath.
