William S. "Bill" Varner

William S. “Bill” Varner, 92, of McAlisterville, passed away on March 15, 2026, at Brookline Manor. Born on September 29, 1933, in Juniata County, he was the son of the late Norman and Margaret (McManigal) Varner.

Bill spent his working years in the materials testing lab for PennDOT. After retiring from the state, he continued to work for Jay Fulkroad and Sons and Mike Cleck Paving. A longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McAlisterville, he found quiet joy in hunting, playing baseball and softball, and bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Velma N. (Miller) Varner; his son, Steven E. Varner and wife Susan; his sister, Gail Ann Foltz; five grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, William S. Varner Jr. and Charles David Varner, and three siblings, Robert, Lois, and Mary.

Bill’s steady presence, love of family, and simple pleasures left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
