William Oscar Maddaus, 80, of Alamo, California, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on Long Island, New York, he was raised in Palo Alto, California, where he became an Eagle Scout. He went on to earn a civil engineering degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He devoted his career to water and environmental engineering, contributing to important projects that improved water systems throughout California and around the world. In 1995, with the steadfast support of his wife Linda, he founded his own firm, Maddaus Water Management. William loved travel and the outdoors, and he had a gift for sharing stories drawn from a life rich in adventure, curiosity, and service.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda, their two children, Lisa Maddaus (Ryan Moore) and their children, Paul and Sara, and Michelle Maddaus (Chris Matyas) and their children, Kayla and Alexander, as well as loved ones across the globe who will remember his wisdom, humor, and encouragement to explore the world.
