December 1, 1976— March 5, 2026
Lawton, OK
William N. Mitchell, 49, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on March 5, 2026. Born on December 1, 1976, in Lawton, he grew up with a deep love for sports, particularly baseball, which he played through high school and college. That same passion for athletics continued during his 21 years of service in the United States Air Force, where he played softball on the All Air Force team.
William served his country with distinction as a medical technician and later as both an enlisted recruiter and doctor recruiter. He took great pride in mentoring young men and women entering military service, guided by a strong sense of duty, integrity, and patriotism. A true patriot, he loved his country and carried the values of service and honor throughout his life.
He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, on February 14, 1998, in Lawton. Together they shared 28 years of marriage built on love, loyalty, forgiveness, and shared adventures. William was a devoted husband and father who cherished time with Carolyn and their children. He was an enthusiastic sports fan who supported the Oklahoma Sooners, the Oklahoma City Thunder—whose season ticket holder he was—and the Seattle Mariners. He particularly admired the skill and humility of Ken Griffey Jr. and Barry Sanders. He also enjoyed shooting sports, traveling, grilling for family gatherings, and sharing good bourbon and conversation with friends.
Known for his warm, fun-loving nature, William never met a stranger. He lived life with energy and generosity, always striving to do right by others. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; their children, Trevor, Camden, Lauren, and Cali; his brother, Danny; his sister, Susan Kelly; his chosen brother, Don Ricci; his father, William “Bill” Akins; and many extended family members and lifelong friends whose lives he touched. The stories, laughter, and memories he created will remain with all who knew him.
