April 28, 1935— February 28, 2026
Hot Springs Village, AR
William Louie Green, affectionately known to many as “Dub,” passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 28, 1935, in Paris, Texas, Dub lived a rich and full life marked by deep devotion to family, unwavering kindness, and an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to everyone he met.
An extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dub was cherished as a one-of-a-kind individual whose empathy reached far beyond his immediate family. For five years he collected clothing, housewares, and kitchen items to support homeless veterans at St. Francis House in Little Rock, Arkansas. He served as President of the Postal Supervisors Association in Dallas, Texas, as Social Coordinator for the Knights of Columbus in Waxahachie, Texas, and as State Director for Arkansas Special Olympics. His compassionate spirit was recognized with two Family of the Month honors from the Hot Springs Village Knights of Columbus and numerous certificates and plaques celebrating his service. With the same servant’s heart, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves from 1954 to 1964.
Dub’s warm laughter and distinctive humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He had a playful tradition of running his finger across his upper lip while making a comical sound for every child he met, a gesture that became a beloved family tradition now joyfully continued by his grandson Jacob. His engaging personality also shone through in the light-hearted way he would ask women he met, “How do you pronounce that?” sparking smiles wherever he went. He found great pleasure in golf, bowling, jigsaw puzzles, bingo, slot machines, crossword puzzles, and classic western movies. For more than three decades he was an active member of the 2nd Monday Poker Group and the Old Timers Basketball Group in Hot Springs Village, where he built many lasting friendships.
Dub is survived by his beloved Rebecca (Becky) Packer of Corsicana, Texas; grandchildren Averie and James Grant and great-granddaughters Allison and Cori Grant of Fairfield, Texas; grandson Jacob and Emily Packer of Dallas, Texas; grandson Jerry Wayne (Trey) VanZuuk III and Brittany of Dublin, Texas; and his nieces and nephews Donna Lynne Green Williams, Wendy Williams Lay and husband Jeff, Justin Christen, Madison Annebelle, Cole and Kyler Williams, Candice Williams, KJ and Chad. He is also remembered fondly by his in-laws Frances Divin of Athens, Texas; Elick Marusak of Ennis, Texas; Margaret and Emil Martinek of Ennis, Texas; Lillie Macalik of Dallas, Texas; John Marusak of Arlington, Texas; and Wilma Kapavik of Ennis, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sons Randal William Green and Jerry Wayne VanZuuk II; his parents Harles Green and Emma Lou Rae Byrd; his brother Don Green and wife Jan Green; his sister Sandra Kincaid and husband Bill; and many dear in-laws and extended family members.
Dub’s legacy is one of laughter, generosity, and love. His spirit will live on through the stories, smiles, and traditions he created, treasured by all who had the privilege to know him. He will be deeply missed yet forever celebrated as a remarkable man who touched countless lives with kindness and joy.
