William "Bill" Lee Howerin

William “Bill” Lee Howerin entered the church triumphant on February 26, 2026. Bill was born in Norfolk, Virginia to William E. Howerin and Hazel M. James in 1940. He graduated from Scotland Neck High School in 1958. Bill was a proud graduate of East Carolina University in 1965 with a degree in Physical Education. He joined the National Guard at the age of 16. He then served in the Army Reserves, honorably retiring in 2000. He worked for Anaconda Wire and Cable Company and Superior Essex , retiring after 40 years of service.

In retirement, Bill enjoyed coaching youth baseball, participating in Upward events, watching Tarboro High football, and being a proud grandfather to his two granddaughters. He sang in the church choir and volunteered at ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital. He enjoyed beach trips with his wife.

Bill is survived by his wife, Joan Howerin; son and daughter -in-law, Lee and Karen Howerin, and granddaughters Jessa and Michaela Howerin. Bill was preceded in death by his late wife, Jean Campbell Howerin, his son Michael Dale Howerin, and grandson Emmanuel Peter Howerin.

A celebration of life will be held at Tarboro First Free Will Baptist Church on March 14, 2026 at 2 pm. There will be visitation with the family from 1-2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tarboro High School Athletic Booster Club or Tarboro First Free Will Baptist Church.
