William L. Bassetto
December 24, 1951— March 6, 2026
Naperville, IL
William L. "Bill" Bassetto, age 74, of Naperville, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, passed away on March 6, 2026. Born on December 24, 1951, in Chicago, he was the beloved husband of Alana E. "Lana" Bassetto (née McCone), whom he married on July 20, 1974. He was a loving father to Bridget Bassetto Lenard, Brianne (John) Zitko, and Caitlin (Nicholas) Haap, all of Naperville, and an adored grandfather to Aisling, Nolan, and Maura Lenard; Jack and Lila Zitko; and Liam, Cavan, and Maeve Haap.
The oldest of six siblings, Bill grew up on the southeast side of Chicago in a family known for its generosity and kind hearts. A natural athlete, he excelled as a football player at Mendel Catholic Prep, where his defensive contributions helped the team remain undefeated. He went on to play college football at the University of Illinois and the University of New Mexico before playing two seasons of professional football with the Chicago Wind. It was at the University of Illinois that he met Lana, beginning a love story that would last a lifetime.
In 1976, Bill and Lana settled in Naperville, where they raised their three daughters and built a warm, close-knit family centered on love and support. For more than thirty years, Bill owned and operated Bassetto Builders, designing and constructing distinctive homes in the community while taking pride in his creativity and ability to fix anything. At home, he was equally devoted, helping his daughters with imaginative school projects and always placing his wife and girls at the center of his world. He cherished fishing and hunting trips with his father and brothers, maintained the family’s annual hunting tradition, and delighted in attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Known for his constant smile, remarkable strength, and generous spirit, Bill touched the lives of everyone around him. He is survived by his wife Lana, his children and grandchildren, his mother Dolores Bassetto of Neenah, Wisconsin, his siblings Thomas (Kathy) Bassetto, Donna (Joseph) Leahy, Steven (Cassandra) Bassetto, and Linda (Douglas) Driscoll, and many loving relatives and friends. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
