William "Billy Joe" Whitley, of Orange Grove, Texas, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on February 3, 2026, in Jourdanton, Texas. Born on August 8, 1936, in San Diego, Texas, he lived a life filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Billy Joe graduated from Natalia High School in 1955, before attending Texas Lutheran in 1956. His early years laid the groundwork for a life characterized by hard work, perseverance, and an unwavering dedication to his family's happiness.

Billy Joe's working career started at Texaco where he was a Foreman for over 20 years. Due to an unfortunate workplace accident where he lost his hand, he was forced to retire early. This early retirement provided a new opportunity where Billie Joe's legacy truly began. In 1973, he turned his entrepreneurial dreams into reality by building Whites Auto, which later became Western Auto. Over a remarkable 28 years, he dedicated himself to owning and operating the business, earning the admiration and respect of his community.

Known for his infectious sense of humor, Billy Joe loved to joke and bring joy to those around him. He had a passion for cooking, frequently showcasing his talents with barbecues that brought family and friends together. Whether it was scratching off lottery tickets, playing dominoes, or enjoying trips to Kickapoo for a little gambling, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for the outdoors shone through his hobbies as well, especially when it came to fishing, gardening, or hunting. Billy Joe was also an avid sports fan, passionately supporting his favorite teams, the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys. Above all, Billy Joe's family was the center of his world.

Billy Joe is reunited with his beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy Lee Tillman Whitley, who forever held a special place in his heart. He is also preceded in death by his father, Quortice Lee Whitley, and his mother, Ruby Atkinson Whitley, both of whom nurtured his family values. He leaves his memories to his cherished daughters, Debbie (Loren) Fine and Tina Chambers; grandchildren, Shain Hennig, Lexus (Clay) Thompson, and Brooke (Kyle) Martin; step-granddaughter, Chaliis Fine; great-grandson, River; step-great-grandson, Luke; siblings, Betty (Bobby) Gallagher, Sonny Whitley, and Mervin (Jeanne) Whitley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
