William Jesse Griffin

March 28, 1939 March 12, 2026

Jackson, MS

It is with both heavy hearts and warm memories that we announce the passing of William Jesse "Billy" Griffin III, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and active member of the Jackson community. Born on March 28, 1939, Billy lit up every room he entered until his peaceful departure on March 12, 2026, at the age of 86.

Billy's journey began in his teenage years, driving trucks at Jackson Sand & Gravel and G&H Ready Mix-a company started by his father. With hard work and dedication, he eventually took over and expanded the business, retiring comfortably in his early 50s. But retirement was merely the beginning of a new chapter for Billy, filled with gardening, farming, and sharing the bounty of his harvest with friends and neighbors. Billy truly lived a blessed and wonderful life.

A proud member of First United Methodist Church of Jackson, Billy lived a life rooted in Christian values, always helping others. His generosity knew no bounds; he quietly supported those in need, expecting nothing in return. Billy had a remarkable love for the outdoors, making time for fishing and hunting, which brought him endless joy.

Billy is survived by his dear loving wife of 65 years, Paula Griffin, whose love and support enriched his life every day; his devoted daughter, Karen Slayton (Searcy); beloved grandchildren, Kalan Rush (Kyle), Ashton Smith (Blake), and Robert Slayton (Hannah); adored great grandchildren, Leighton, Graham, Emi Reese, Collins, Scottie Claire, and one additional great grandchild due in April; brother, James Griffin (Linda); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Billy was greeted at the gates of heaven by his parents, WJ and Gladys Griffin and siblings, Jewel Paul, Shirley Chastain, Gerry Faye Griffin, and Judy Foster.

Services honoring Billy's incredible life will be held at Pinecrest Cemetery in Jackson. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the service begins at 2:00 p.m. with John Brown officiating. Family and friends will be invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life touched so many, reflecting on the love, laughter, and lessons he imparted to all he met.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Billy's memory to the First United Methodist Church of Jackson or the American Cancer Society.

In this time of sorrow, we remember William Jesse Griffin III not just for the years he spent with us, but for the love and kindness he shared, which will forever resonate in our hearts. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and family that will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
