William J. Sutay Sr.

William J. Sutay Sr. William J. Sutay, Sr., of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on March 15 at the age of 98. Bill was born November 8, 1928, in Bridgeport, CT, to the late John Sutay and Anna (Zavacki) Sutay. Bill's varied career included stints as an industrial photographer and an inspector for General Electric. He was a man of many interests and an avid learner who taught himself to speak Russian. He spent many years bowling at Barnum Duckpin Bowling Lanes in Stratford, where he served as treasurer of two leagues. Bill also enjoyed roller skating and traveled throughout the northeast to participate in roller skating tournaments, where he won numerous awards. He stayed active during his retirement, enjoying bicycle rides, taking trips to the casinos with dear friends such as Barbara Butterworth, and playing cards with friends at the Trumbull Senior Center. He also kept his mind active in his later years, spending time doing crossword puzzles and word searches. He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Sutay) O'Neil of Bridgeport; his son, William J. Sutay, and son-in-law, Brian Thomas, of Trumbull; his grandson, Brian O'Neil of Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Osterberg) Sutay; his sister, Eleanor (Sutay) Vargoshe; brothers John Sutay, George Sutay and Frank Sutay; and his grandson, Kevin O'Neil. A service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 21 at Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road in Trumbull at 12:00 p.m. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be private.
