Beloved husband of 45 years to Isabel Fitzgerald. Father of the late William MacLellan Jr. and his surviving wife Joyce, Stephen MacLellan, Elizabeth MacLellan-Rico and her husband Joseph, Eric MacLellan and his wife Bernadette, Nancy Levan and her husband David and Kurt MacLellan and his partner Mary Jo Shilalis. Stepfather of Kathy Fitzgerald and her partner Paul Terrio, Joanna Gilman and Rose Mirisola and her husband Nick. Brother of the late John, Edward and James MacLellan, Marie Legrice and Rita Brown. He is also survived by 19 grandchilden, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. William was an avid chess player whose passion for the game shaped much of his life. He was a dedicated member and past president of the Boylston Chess Club. Chess was more than just a pastime for him. He continued to play and share his enthusiasm for the game until his passing. Chess will live on as part of his lasting legacy, carried forward by the next generation. William worked for the MBTA for many years. He held many positions over the years, retiring as a track laborer. Relatives & friends are invited to attend visitation at the Breslin Funeral Home, 610 Pleasant St., Malden on Thursday March 12th from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM followed by his Funeral Mass celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden at 10 AM. Services will conclude with interment in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
