William "Bill" Hollingsworth

April 11, 1935 March 9, 2026

Alcova, WY

William “Bill” Hollingsworth passed away on March 9, 2026. Born on April 11, 1935 in Derby, Connecticut, the third of eight children of Florence (Schlitter) and Harold Hollingsworth, he grew up in Shelton, Connecticut, where he spent his youth playing baseball, swimming, fishing, and singing in the church choir.

After graduating from Shelton High School, Bill joined the Army, training at Hohenfels Infantry Training Center in Germany and serving in Kornwestheim. Upon returning home, he helped construct a water tunnel into New Haven, Connecticut, before accepting a position as a high scaler in Fremont Canyon near Alcova, Wyoming. While working there, he met Sherolyn Minchow at the Riverbend Cafe. After attending a Sweetwater Dance together, they became inseparable and married on July 2, 1960.

Bill worked as an underground miner in Shirley Basin while helping operate the family ranch alongside the Webers, raising cattle and growing hay. He and Sherolyn eventually purchased their own ranch near Alcova, where they raised their two daughters. His family remained the center of his world and the guiding force behind every decision he made. For more than thirty years, Bill operated as a hunting outfitter, guiding hunts across Wyoming and forming many lifelong friendships. An avid hunter, he was fortunate to draw three bighorn sheep tags during his lifetime. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, playing cribbage, rock hunting, and crafting beautiful items from the stones he collected.

Deeply committed to his community, Bill served on the Alcova School District Board of Trustees and later on the Natrona County School District Board of Trustees for more than twenty years. He played a key role in the construction of the gym at Alcova School prior to county-wide consolidation. In his later career, he worked for Industrial Lubricant, P&H MinePro, and Major Metal Service out of Gillette, traveling to mines across Wyoming, Montana, and Washington. He took special pride in befriending gatekeepers at every site to ensure he was always welcome.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Shannon Jackett (Dean) and Tanya Schimpf (Paul); grandchildren Blair Jackett, Taylar Jackett (Colton), Kaylee Schimpf (Logan), and Lane Schimpf (Emma); great-grandchildren Braylee Condelario and Elsie Schimpf; and sisters Dorothy Blake (Bob), Patti Maguire (Dennis), Linda Walters (George), and Carol Coelho (Michael). He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Sherolyn, his parents, brother Harold Hollingsworth, and sisters Mildred Batza and Florence Bialek.
