William Henry McKenna III

William Henry McKenna III, known to all as Bill, died on March 11, 2026, at St. Joseph Mt. Sterling Hospital. He was 72. Born on July 15, 1953, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, to the late Dr. William and Mary Margaret Myers McKenna, Bill remained a lifelong resident of the community he loved.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Bill lived with quiet strength and deep integrity. His faith and commitment to service shaped his days. He served for many years as President of Community Trust Bank, where he truly cared for both his colleagues and customers. He gave generously of his time to the Mt. Sterling city council, the Rotary Club, and efforts to support and strengthen the local agricultural community. On the golf course, he was a familiar and welcome presence, valuing the friendship and fellowship far more than the score.

Bill was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Elaine Richards McKenna; his daughter, Blair (Austin) Lanzarone of Weatherford, Texas; his grandson, Mac Lanzarone; his brothers, Mark (Cindy) McKenna of Mt. Sterling and Dave (Lesia) McKenna of Hillsboro, Ohio; his sister, Katy (Tommy) Breeze of Lexington, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
