William Henry “Bill” Caswell, 78, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. Born on February 19, 1948, in Darby, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Earl Eugene Caswell Jr. and the late Mary McGowan Caswell. Bill attended Haverford High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline R. Casanova. They married on May 9, 1970.
Bill served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1971 until 1977, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his military service, he and Jackie settled in Waldorf, where he began a long career with the Department of Defense as a computer programmer for the Defense Mapping Agency, now known as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. He later retired as a Supervisory Integration Engineer and continued working for several years as a contractor for McClendon Corp. as a Supervisory Infrastructure Engineer.
Deeply committed to his community, Bill joined the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department after retirement and became an active member of EMS 3. He served as a dedicated driver and EMT, earning the titles of Top Driver and Top Runner for many years. He received both the EMS 3 Rookie of the Year Award and the EMS 3 Squad Person of the Year Award. Over the years he held numerous leadership positions, including Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant, Engineer, and member of the Board of Directors. For the past decade he served as Department Treasurer, a role he held until his passing. He was a Life Member of both the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and the Disabled American Veterans Waldorf Post.
Bill was an avid fan of the Washington Capitals and Washington Commanders. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, especially his three grandchildren and his beloved pets. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Jackie Caswell, and his brother, Earl Eugene Caswell III. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Lenharr (Paul) of Lusby, Maryland, and Elizabeth Kidder (Aaron) of Lexington Park, Maryland; grandchildren Tripp Lenharr, Braden Lenharr, and Taryn Kidder; and his cat Rocky.
