William George "Bill" Duhnovsky

William George "Bill" Duhnovsky

Monticello, IN

William “Bill” George Duhnovsky, 94, of Monticello, Indiana, passed away at his residence on March 10, 2026. Born on May 17, 1931, in Gary, Indiana, to Bela and Margaret (Hein) Duhnovsky, Bill grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the outdoors that would shape his entire life.

After graduating from Lew Wallace High School, he was drafted during the Korean War and served four years in the United States Air Force. It was during his service that he discovered a talent for archery, a skill he later shared with pride as he taught his children. In 1959 he married Marilyn Irene Peterson at Blessed Sacrament Church in Gary. The couple moved to Monticello in 1962, where they raised their four children and built a life centered on family and nature.

Bill spent 40 years with NIPSCO while remaining a familiar and supportive presence in the local sports community, coaching baseball and cheering from the stands. He was never happier than when he was outside—fishing, hunting, trapping, or tending his garden. With patience and quiet discipline, he passed these passions on to his children and grandchildren, becoming the steady, outdoors-loving patriarch of a family that grew to five generations.

He is survived by his children, John (Debbie) Duhnovsky of Culver, Indiana, Diana (Paul) Caccavo of Springhill, Kansas, Michael (Eugenia) Duhnovsky of Monticello, Indiana, and Susan (Bob) Wise of St. Johns, Florida; his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Marilyn, who passed away on March 3, 2018.
