William Earl Lee
September 7, 1943— March 7, 2026
Indianapolis, IN
William Earl Lee, known to all as Bill, passed away peacefully at home in 2026 at the age of 83, surrounded by loved ones after a lengthy and valiant fight against multiple health challenges. Born in Indianapolis to Joseph and Virginia Lee, he graduated from college before proudly serving in the military. He went on to build a successful interior contracting business, through which he met the love of his life, Eloise Paul. Their more than twenty years together were filled with world travel, fine food, cherished friendships, and adventures that became beloved family stories. Bill and Eloise brought out the best in each other and in everyone around them.
Bill was an avid tennis player and enthusiastic outdoorsman who found his greatest joy water skiing, fishing, or simply basking in the sunshine. He had a deep love for biographies and music, never missing a chance to dance. His exceptionally soft heart extended especially to animals, particularly rescue bunnies, many of whom enjoyed lives of luxury under his care. He took great delight in sharing the joy—and occasional chaos—of bunny companionship with Eloise.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Eloise Paul; daughters Stacia Lee and Kristen Smith (Andrew Smith); son Scott Lee (Kelley); granddaughters Amelia Smith, Alyxandra Lee, and Addison Lee; mother-in-law Dorit Paul; in-laws Alison Paul and Marc Gold; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The caregivers who supported him also became cherished family through their kindness.
Bill faced life’s final chapter with remarkable gratitude, humor, and grit, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, generosity, and a life lived fully.
