It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Mr. William David Perdue, age 79. Mr. Perdue passed away March 8, 2026 while at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Perdue was born September 10, 1946 in Chesterfield County to the late Elisha “E.P.” and Cora Jane Perdue, David was a beloved son, brother, and friend- but his greatest joy came from being Daddy to his daughters and Poppy to his granddaughters. He retired from Ahlstrom after a 42 year career at the manufacturing site in Bethune where he built lifelong friendships. Later in retirement, David pursued his passions for bee keeping through co-owning Kite Branch Honey with his brother Glenn and for raising Wyandotte chickens at his home.

Left to cherish David’s memory are his daughters, Wendy (Benny) Welch of Bishopville and Jennifer (Lee) Tillman of Hartsville; granddaughters, Caroline Welch of Bishopville, Brooke Welch of Charleston, and Eva Raines Tillman of Hartsville; brothers, Glenn Perdue of Patrick and Donald Perdue of Walnut Cove, NC; sister, Ida Mae Money of Patrick; brothers-in-law, Robert Hall of Winston-Salem, NC and Ray Threatt of Patrick; many nieces and nephews; his longtime companion, Betty Pilkenton of Patrick; and his beloved dog, Baby.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sisters Evelyn McMahan, Judy Threatt, and Dianne Hall.

In celebration of David’s life, a visitation will be held at Norton Funeral Home in Hartsville on Tuesday, March 10 from 5-7 PM and a graveside service will be held at Palmetto Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, March 11 at 2 PM. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Baptist Church, 9501 Hartsville-Ruby Road, Patrick, SC 29584.
