July 17, 1939— March 13, 2026
Columbia, TN
William Boyd Wood, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026. Born on July 17, 1939, in Rockdale, Tennessee, to the late Charlie Wood and Dorothy Hayes Wood, Boyd grew up with his four brothers and carried the values of family, kindness, and hard work throughout his life.
He had a lifelong passion for vehicles, from those he drove to the miniature ones he collected, including a world-class collection of Hot Wheels. Boyd retired from the Ford Motor Company after 30 years of dedicated service at the Kentucky Truck Plant. Known affectionately as the “fixer” of the family, he possessed a remarkable talent for repairing nearly anything. His great-grandchildren were convinced that “Papa can fix anything,” especially their bicycles. Whether working with his hands or offering a helping heart, Boyd was always ready to step in when someone needed him.
Boyd never met a stranger. His warm smile, joyful spirit, and welcoming hugs made everyone feel like family. A faithful and God-loving man, he was a devoted member of South Gate Church of Christ, where his kindness and gentle nature touched many lives.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara June Wood; his daughter, Suzanna White; his grandchildren, Ashley (Aaron) Schmitt-Matzen and Brandon (Danielle) White; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Liam, Harper, Nora, and Lenox Schmitt-Matzen. He is also survived by his brother, Morris Wood, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Boyd was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Ray Wood, Randolph Wood, and Douglas Wade Wood.
