William 'Bill' Hanson of Cozad passed away Friday, March 6, 2026 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 84. Bill was born on June 3, 1941 in Elwood, Nebraska to Ralph B. and Eltha H. (McGraw) Hanson.

Following his graduation from Cozad High School with the class of 1960, Bill served in the Army National Guard. He went on to have a long and committed career, working at Allied Mills, then Hays Hatchery, and ultimately dedicating 33 years of service to the City of Cozad Landfill, Water, and Sewer Department until his retirement.

Bill was married to Karen Elston on January 12, 1962, in Cozad, where they built their life together. They were blessed with two children, son Todd and daughter Teri, who brought him great joy. He cherished spending time with his family, creating lasting memories that will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Throughout his life, Bill found enjoyment in bowling, gambling, fishing, and playing Horseshoes. He was also a proud member of the Cozad United Methodist Church.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife Karen; brother, Doyle Hanson; sisters, LaRae Crick, Lola Robertson, Thelma Hansen and Norma Bratten; niece Sharon Armagost. He is survived by his son Todd (Tracy) Hanson of Omaha and daughter Teri Hanson of North Platte; grandson Zander Hanson of Omaha; nephews Denny Hansen, David Crick and Billy Crick; nieces Vickie Lee and Stacy Larsen; and special friend Pam Welch.

Visitation will be held on March 9, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad, located at 620 East 22nd Street, Cozad, NE 69130. The funeral service will take place the following day, March 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel, also at 620 East 22nd Street, Cozad, NE 69130.
