Bill was born in Lake City, MN to Robert and Beatrice Lamb on January 23, 1953. He was raised in Storm Lake, IA and attended Storm Lake High School. Shortly following high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.Throughout his military career, Bill travelled extensively overseas and throughout the United States, ultimately earning his master's degree in nuclear engineering from The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in 1990. After completing 20 years of military service, Bill retired from the USAF, then worked as a nuclear engineer contracting for various companies.Bill enjoyed an active lifestyle, which included snow skiing, playing softball, hiking, swimming, and road biking. Bill completed several races, often running 5k, 10k and half marathon distances, and triathlons including 3 half Ironman races. In 2022 Bill climbed to the Mount Everest base camp, an elevation of 17,598 feet. Bill finished several Ragbrai road bike races across Iowa and would often take off on a bike trip somewhere in the US or Europe.Bill is survived by his cherished wife Mary, of Ocala, FL: daughters Jennifer Macias (Carlos) of New Mexico, Joy Reed (Jeffrey) of Vermont, and Mikele Lamb (Fred) of Tennessee, brother Andrew Lamb (Mary) of Arizona, sister Nancy Mayo of New York; grandchildren: Simone, Sabrina, Nathan (Macy), Delaney, Arianna, Danica, Elexis, and Amiya, two nieces and one nephew, great grandchildren and his two beloved dogs.He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends in the community whom he enjoyed spending time with. Bill was an inspiration to his children, grandchildren and those who knew him well of the power of determination and the value of a great sense of humor.Memorial services and interment will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, date and time to be determined.
