Willard Penn Wagers, age 70, of Summerville, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family and friends.
A man of deep faith, Penn was a devoted follower of Jesus, allowing his love for the Lord to guide him throughout his life. His family was his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. He remained a steadfast presence for his children and grandchildren, modeling integrity, hard work, and unconditional love.
A lifelong entrepreneur with an energetic spirit and visionary mind, Penn built numerous businesses across several industries, including insurance, marine sales, marine manufacturing, real estate, and banking. He brought the same tenacity and commitment to every venture that defined his personal life. Penn loved to sing and dance, especially when his favorite Elvis Presley songs played. For most of his life he was a fixture on the football field, enjoying a distinguished career as a referee. He advanced through the ranks from SCISA to officiating in the Big South Conference, Sun Belt Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference, and NFL Europe, earning the respect of players, coaches, and peers alike.
Penn is survived by his wife, Marcie Wagers; his children, Missy Young (Jody), Penny Connor, Devin Taylor (Sara), and Jake Taylor (Christy); his grandchildren, Bryson Connor, Gavin Young, Wyatt Young, and Elizabeth Taylor; his siblings Beverly, Paula (Alex), and Harry (Susanne); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss his guidance, humor, and unwavering support. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Cameron Connor, and his parents, Willard “Fritz” Wagers and Margaret Pennington Wagers.
