He was the youngest of nine children born to parents Ernest and Emilie (Teinert) Schulz on September 10, 1945 in Loebau, Texas. On September 23, 1945, he was baptized at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau, and confirmed April 10, 1960 in the same church.On September 25, 1965, Wilbert was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Biehle. To this union, two children were born, Melissa Schulz and Wilbert Schulz, Jr. Dorothy was called to her heavenly home on February 5, 1990.On January 9, 1993 Wilbert was united in holy matrimony to Donna Schnakenberg.Wilbert started hanging sheetrock in Austin when he was in his teens. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Houston where he continued to hang sheetrock for 42 years before retiring in 2007.Wilbert loved the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, camping, and riding his bike. He proudly told everyone he talked to; he rode 36,100 miles on his bike after he retired. He also enjoyed gardening and working in the yard. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, sharing his love of the outdoors, sharing stories and playing dominoes.He is survived by his wife Donna, his daughter Melissa Schulz, his son Wilbert (Wil) Schulz, Jr and wife Karen; 4 grandchildren, Lauren Schulz, Cody Schulz and wife Kelly, Caleb Schulz, and Cole Schulz; one great-granddaughter, Emma Schulz; one sister, Gertrude Bocock; brother-in-law, Gary Schnakenberg and wife Carol, sister-in-law Helen Ryza and husband Larry; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his first wife Dorothy, Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, William (Bill) Schulz and his wife Deloris, Alvin (Ollie) Schulz and his wife Frances, Albert Schulz, Gilbert Schulz and his wife Shirley, infant Walter Schulz; and two sisters, Adelia Pampell and husband Walter, and Louise Kilian and her husband Alfred, and brother-in-law Roger Bocock.He was a long-time member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee, usher, elder, and a member of the Helping Hands team. Later he transferred to St. John Lutheran church where he enjoyed supporting the community garden.Serving as pallbearers are John Ryza, George Schnakenberg, Caleb Schulz, Cody Schulz, Cole Schulz, and Tony Vlahakis.Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in Cypress or Evangelical Life Ministries (ELM).Family and friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 9:00 AM on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at St. John Lutheran Church, Cypress TX. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM. A reception in the Chapel will follow. Interment will be at Woodlawn Garden, Houston TX at 1:30 PM.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
