Whitney Collins Shenkman, known for her caring spirit, loving nature, and generous heart, passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 68.
She was the visionary behind Barktoberfest, a beloved dog-friendly fall festival that brought pet lovers and their furry companions together to celebrate community while supporting local animal rescues. Dogs in costumes became a cherished tradition, strengthening bonds between people and animals for a meaningful cause. Whitney also devoted herself to the Red Sled Initiative, where she helped collect toys and gifts for children in foster care, bringing joy and comfort to many during the holiday season. In addition, she contributed her time and passion to the Old Salts Fishing Clinic along Florida’s Gulf Coast, teaching children about fishing and marine life and nurturing in them a lasting appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
Whitney will be remembered for the positive energy she brought to every endeavor and for the genuine connections she fostered among friends and families. Her legacy of kindness and determination endures in the lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
