Wendy S. “Happy” Henry Gilmore, 58, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 22, 1967, in New Martinsville, West Virginia, Wendy was known for her warmth, creativity, adventurous spirit, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. A loving mother and proud grandmother, she found deep happiness in traveling and exploring new places, as well as in the quieter pursuits of crocheting, working on diamond puzzles, drawing, and writing. Her hands were rarely still; she had a genuine gift for making beautiful things and generously shared her creations and laughter with family and friends.
Wendy worked in many roles throughout her life, including as a nurse’s aide, cashier, auditor, area manager, and store manager. She even trained to drive semi-trucks, always embracing new challenges with determination. She approached every job with pride, a strong work ethic, and kindness, forming many lasting friendships along the way.
Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughter, Christina Freshour (Jason); her son, Timothy Dotson (Ashley); and her beloved grandchildren, Adam Phillips, Ryder Freshour, Gunner Freshour, and Mikaele Freshour. She is also survived by her mother, Karla Weekley (Dick), and her brother, Robert Henry, Jr. She was preceded in death by her longtime partner, Lynn Kreaps Jr. “Junior”; her father, Robert Henry, Sr.; her grandparents, Richard and Joan Barnhart and Earl and Mabel Henry; her sister-in-law, Bessie Henry; and her lifelong friend, Tanya Smith.
Wendy will be remembered for her kindness, her creativity, her adventurous spirit, and the love she shared so freely with her family and friends.
