March 26, 1960— March 5, 2026
PA
Wendie Hawkins was born on March 26, 1960, to Alvin Hanna and Juanita Braxton. The oldest of her siblings, she embraced the role of second mother with devotion and loyalty, always looking out for them and having their backs. Known for her boundless energy and constant involvement in everything around her, she possessed one of the biggest hearts, a radiant smile, and a laugh that lingered long after she left a room. Her warm, magnetic spirit drew people to her effortlessly, allowing her to make friends wherever she went.
She graduated from Central Dauphin High School in the Class of 1979. Shortly after graduation, she traveled to Florida with friends to celebrate the milestone. Upon returning, she met Winston Hawkins, and the two married in the summer of 1983. Together they raised two daughters, Taihesha and Markeeta.
Wendie found joy in traveling, family gatherings, watching reruns of her favorite shows, decorating for the holidays, baking, and spending long hours on her porch from sunrise to sunset with the radio playing. She was the beloved neighborhood mom, caring for the local children as if they were her own and ensuring many of them got safely on and off the school bus. She cherished being outdoors, especially on warm summer nights spent chatting and laughing with neighbors.
Wendie passed away on March 5, 2026. She was preceded in death by her father Alvin Hanna, her devoted stepfather George Braxton, and her sister-in-law Rosie Hawkins. She is survived by her husband Winston, her mother Juanita Braxton, her sister Robin Bush (Charles), her brother Shawn Hanna, her sister Tameka Braxton, her daughters Taihesha Hawkins-Hardy (Zackery) and Markeeta Hawkins, her three grandsons Eric, Dominique, and Joel, four great-grandchildren, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
