Wendell Young ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Gallagher Funeral Home and Crematory - Ball on Mar. 16, 2026.It is with deep love and sadness that the family of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend announces his passing of Wendell Wayne Young on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the age of 87.Born on July 31, 1938, in Grant Parish, Louisiana, he spent his life rooted in the values of family, hard work, and quiet dedication to those he loved. He passed away peacefully in Dry Prong, Louisiana, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion.A proud United States Marine veteran, he carried the values of honor, discipline, and service throughout his life. After his time in the Marine Corps, he returned home where he built a life centered on family, community, and the outdoors. He found great joy in simple pleasures-spending early mornings hunting in the woods, casting a line while fishing, and tending to his garden. He had a deep curiosity about the past and was an avid amateur genealogist, often spending hours researching family history and sharing stories that connected generations. He was also a devoted lover of dogs, rarely without a loyal companion by his side. But above all else, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He adored his grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them. His love for his children, grandchildren, and extended family was constant, and he cared for them with a steady, selfless devotion that will never be forgotten. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, his steady presence, and the way he always put his family first. His life was one defined not by grand gestures, but by everyday acts of love, loyalty, and commitment. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and who will carry his memory in their hearts forever. A life well lived, a man well loved, and a legacy that will endure through the generations he cherished so dearly.A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 pm at Gallagher Funeral Home.Wendell is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Sallye Young and his sister, Melba Tomlin. Those left to cherish and celebrate his memory are his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia Young; children, Wendy Young-Austin (Cary), Walter Young (Tina), and David Young (Jonnie); sister, Martha Wilson; grandchildren, Rebecca Young, Rachel Young, Hannah Young, and Jonathan Young; bonus granddaughter, Bea Reed; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
