Wendell Blair Nix, Sr.

Wendell Blair Nix, Sr., 64, of Bainbridge, passed away Friday, March 6, 2026.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Humphries officiating. A private interment will follow with Russell Boyd, Sam Jones, Johnny Edwards, Bill Custer, Jay Leverett, Jeff Smith, Steve Key, and Bobby Barber serving as active pallbearers. Current & former employees of Stone’s Home Center, the deacons of First Baptist Church, Earl Boyett, Ricky Faircloth, Jamie McMillan, Dr. Alan Wilson, Ernie Gilstrap, and Bryan Cottles will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.bryantfuneralga.com. Wendell Blair Nix was born April 20, 1961, in Atlanta, GA, the son of Wendell & Anita King Nix. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1979, and earned an associate degree from Bainbridge Junior College. Wendell and Carla married in 1985 and made their home in Decatur County. He worked in commercial sales for 40+ years with the majority of that time spent at Stone’s Home Center. Wendell was a deacon and dedicated member of First Baptist Church.

Dubbed “Mr. Personality”, Wendell also carried the names “Smiley” and “Grumpy”. Regardless of these descriptions, Wendell was quite a character with a tender heart. When he laughed, he laughed from head to toe. His quick wit and sly one-sided grin let you know you were part of “the in crowd” in his book. He enjoyed visiting with neighbors and his customers. As an Eagle Scout, Wendell learned the importance of a strong work ethic early on. (He was early to bed so he could be sure the doors were promptly opened at Stone’s.)

Working cows and being on the tractor gave Wendell many opportunities to clear his mind. He loved sharing these experiences with his grandchildren, especially driving the tractor the slowest as anyone has ever seen to get the good out of the moment. Wendell was a literal fence mender as well as figurative. He wanted everyone to get along and worked hard at this even when it cost him. Wendell always maintained a rough exterior but loved big and quietly helped others expecting nothing in return.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Carla Harrison Nix; his children, Blair & Mariana Nix; his grandchildren, Noah, Aliyah, Arabellah, and Micah; his mother, Anita Nix; his sister, Sabrina Nix; and a large extended family including his Stone’s Family. Wendell was preceded in death by his father, Wendell B. Nix.
