WAYNE KOCH ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Hamilton Funeral Homes-Akkerman Chapel in Mora on Feb. 26, 2026.Wayne Robert Koch, of Mora, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at his home. He was 68 years old.Wayne was born on April 3, 1957, in Mora, Minnesota to parents Harry and Delores (Bassett) Koch. He grew up on the family farm north of Pomroy Lake. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran in Kroschel. He attended Quamba School through Grade 6 and graduated from Mora High School in 1975. He was also active in 4H, showing cattle and chickens. Wayne attended Pine Technical College and earned his certificate for auto mechanics and auto alignment. As a teenager, Wayne began working at Midland Co-op (Federated Co-op) gas station in downtown Mora. He continued working for Federated in their auto shop for 40+ years. During these years, he also farmed land north of Mora. After leaving Federated, he continued his automotive career at Lenny's Service for 10 years. He was proud to have many loyal customers seeking his friendly manner and auto knowledge. He retired in 2022. Wayne served 35 years on the Peace Township Board from 1985 to 2021. Wayne enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, and motorcycling. He was a proud owner of a 100th anniversary edition Harley Davidson 2003 Heritage Softail for many years and miles.Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Gary Alderink. He is survived by his wife Kathy Hayen; children, Jamie (Kati) Koch and Kim Koch; grandchildren, Kyle (Megan), Jerome, Mason, Ava, Reid, Jarius, Easton, Kyanna, and Breyson; great grandson Keegan; sisters, Elaine Alderink and Harriet (Richard) Suomala; Kathy's children, Dave (Aisha) Ahrens and Brian (Bethany) Lynum Ahrens; Kathys grandchildren, Bibi and Booker; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.Wayne and Kathy were married on February 29, 2020 in Hayward, Wisconsin. They were together for 18 years.A Celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the Hamilton Funeral Homes – Akkerman Chapel in Mora.
