Grand Island, NE
Wayne E. Gleason, 86, of Grand Island, passed away on March 13, 2026, at Tabitha at Prairie Commons.
Born on July 22, 1939, in Heartwell to Charles and Gertrude (Baker) Gleason, Wayne was raised and educated in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduation. On January 31, 1965, he married Sharon Bottorf, and together they raised four children.
Wayne spent his career as a land surveyor, first with Benjamin and Associates and later with the Hall County Department of Roads, retiring seven years ago. He attended Lutheran churches and the Berean Bible Church. Known as a lifelong jokester whose pranks brought laughter to those around him, he found joy in working, bowling, and handling livestock. In his later years, he especially treasured quiet time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Rodney (Jodi) Gleason of Gresham, Kevin (Tonia) Gleason of Grand Island, Lori (Jeff) Beck of Grand Island, and Rodney “Scooter” Gleason of Grand Island; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Dale Gleason, Kenny (Bev) Gleason, Diane (John) Hohnstein, and Joyce (Greg) Husen; and in-laws, Ronda and Dave Mudloff, Connie Bottorf, and Joyce Bottorf, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gertrude; great-grandson, Hank Wayne; and several in-laws.
