Waltraud E. Purdy

Waltraud E. Purdy, known affectionately as Wally, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, at Carthage Area Hospital at the age of 85.

Born on March 31, 1940, in Telgte, Germany, to Richard and Randi (Madsen) Woeckener, Wally moved with her family to Middletown, New York, during her early teens. She graduated from Middletown High School and later married the love of her life, Frank. Together they raised two daughters, Donna and Dora.

Wally had a deep passion for creating and kept her hands busy with painting and crocheting. She found great joy in sharing her crafts with her loved ones and, above all, cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Dora (Floyd) Smith of Black River; her grandchildren, Christina (Jonathan) Taylor and Michael (Lisa) Smith; her great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Gavin, Michael, and Joseph; and her two sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Janet. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank; her daughter, Donna; and her siblings, Erna, Mabel, Richard, Siegfried, and Muriel, all of Middletown, New York.
