Walter Mistyhn ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Kedz Funeral Home - Toms River on Mar. 17, 2026.Walter Stephen Mistyhn of Neptune, 79, passed away on March 13, 2026 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, with his wife and friends by his side. He was born February 23, 1947.Walter, or Walt, grew up and graduated high school in East Brunswick, before enlisting in the United States Army and graduating Officers' Candidate School. He served as a captain and helicopter pilot in Vietnam and Germany. Walter was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam War, where much of his steadfastness and determination was earned. After his service to America, he worked in electronic engineering and equipment assembly as both a shift foreman and a facility engineer.Walter was a member of Community Bible Church. His faithfulness, discipline and leadership strengthened and blessed him the rest of his life. Walter will be remembered for his reliability, hard work and wise planning. He loved to grill. Everyone who ate his grilling loved it too. He enjoyed basking in the sun, driving his Mustang with the top down, and spending time with family. He especially loved these activities while in Florida, his favorite place.Walter was a man who loved stories, both those he told, and those told to him. He was an easy laugh, an amenable conversationalist, and a welcoming presence. He brought structure and security to his home, and honor to his country. Walter is predeceased by his parents Stephen Mistyhn and Stella Kasabucki Mistyhn, his former spouse, Carla Mistyhn, his son, Walt Mistyhn, and his brother-in-law, Michael Newman Sr.He is survived by his wife, Sandi Mistyhn, his daughter and son-in-law Kim and Michael Marotta, former spouse, Edna Mazzie, and his sister, Marianne Mistyhn Newman. As well as grandchildren, step-children, nieces, nephews, cousins and their children.A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 1:00 pm, followed by a reception at Community Bible Church, 424 Lakewood Rd, Neptune City, NJ 07753. Family and friends are invited to gather during this time to honor and remember Walter's life. Please send flowers to Community Bible Church, where the service will take place. Or in lieu of flowers, please donate to Walter's favorite charities: Wounded Warrior Project and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
