He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie I. Dunton and Dorothy E. Dunton (Reed); his wife Barbara; and his siblings, Irving Leslie Dunton, Clifford Dunton, Alberta Strout and Claudine Farnsworth.

He is survived by: his sons, Walter Jr. (Dawn) of Trenton, Michael of Bar Harbor and David of Bar Harbor; his grandchildren, Ocean Dunton (AnnMarie), Hannah Eli and Joann Dunton; and his great grandchildren, Acadia Dunton, Addison Dunton, Chandler McGee and Arai Dunbar. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Jordan-Fernald (1139 Main St, Mt Desert, ME 04660).
