Walter L. Bohorfoush

1935 — 2026

Beltsville, MD

Walter Bohorfoush brought curiosity, precision, and unwavering integrity to everything he touched throughout his remarkable 90 years. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, he built a distinguished 60-year career as a real estate appraiser that carried him from local properties to international assignments, including the appraisal of the US consulate in Düsseldorf after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the environmental complexities of desert tortoise habitats during military base expansions.

He made his home on Montgomery Road in Beltsville for more than 60 years, where he was known for his garden of seasonal inflatables. His sharp mind remained active for a decade on two different trivia teams, where his encyclopedic knowledge and favorite challenge—“Where is it written that...?”—delighted teammates. Walter approached every puzzle, whether in real estate, politics, or Wednesday night trivia, with the same passionate attention to detail that made him invaluable as chief appraiser for the US Army Corps of Engineers during Base Realignment and Closure planning. A devoted parishioner at St. Joseph’s in Beltsville, he served as a lector at Saturday evening Mass for five decades. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2809 for nearly 60 years, affectionately known as “Mr. B,” where he served on the degree team and enjoyed Friday night suppers with his family. Earlier in life, he spent summers as a timer for swim teams alongside his wife, who served as scorekeeper.

A proud Air Force veteran, Walter found his greatest joy in his family. He is survived by his sons Walter (Marie) and John (Lisa), his daughter Ada, his daughter-in-law Debra, and his grandchildren Sara, Trey, Rachael, Kayla, Amy, and Julie. He now rejoins his beloved wife Barbara and his son Robert, leaving behind a legacy of service, curiosity, and love.
