Wallace John Gathe, Sr. was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on March 8, 1946, to the late Kerry and Adonia Patin Gathe. His early years were marked by a remarkable sense of dedication. He chose to leave high school to pursue a job as a golf caddy, demonstrating a strong work ethic that would carry him throughout his life. However, he did not spend much time playing golf!
Wallace worked in maintenance and as equipment operator at Iberia Co-Op until the sugar mill closed its doors. He then went to work maintaining generators for Aggreko, from where he retired.
Wallace was a man of many interests. He enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and watching all sports. He also loved fishing, small game hunting, and his Red Seal dip!
Mr. Gathe is survived by daughter, Kellie Landry; sons, Wallace Gathe, Jr. and Jason Gathe; grandchildren, Hunter Gathe, Kaleb Gathe, Alivia Gathe, and Catherine Gathe; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded death by his wife of 41 years, Vergie Lopez Gathe; infant daughter, Jennifer Gathe; and sisters, Mary Leona Gathe, Annie Lou Hebert, and Pearlie Mae Begnaud.
Pallbearers will be Wallace Gathe, Jr., Jason Gathe, Hunter Gathe, Kaleb Gathe, Glenn Adams, and Bruce Watson.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of Acadiana and The Calcutta House for remarkable care.
Wallace leaves behind a world more colorful than he found it. He will remain in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
