William Aaron "W.A." Nuckles, 90, of Lampasas, passed away on March 17, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at home. He was Rollins Brook Hospital's third baby born on April 19, 1935, in Lampasas to Lucille Champion Nuckles and Joseph Aaron Nuckles.
W.A. grew up in the Unity Community and attended Unity School and graduated from Lampasas High School in 1952. He played trombone for the Fighting Texas Aggie Band for one year. He married Doris Krause Nuckles on April 10, 1976. W.A. had his pilot's license and did crop dusting, then started his career as a crane operator shortly after, until his retirement.
He loved farming and ranching, playing dominoes, eating at Country Kitchen, and watching his grandsons play basketball. He was known for overalls, his welding cap, and stubbornness.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Doris Nuckles; his son, Aaron Nuckles and wife Amanda; his grandchildren, Aidan and Ayson Nuckles; his sister, Mary Casbeer; his nephew, Steve Nuckles, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Lindon Nuckles, his parents, and his siblings, Paul, Pauline, James, and Reuben Nuckles.
Visitation will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Services will be at 10 am on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at School Creek Baptist Church, with interment to follow at School Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in W.A.'s name to a charity of your choice.
