Vivian A. Haak

1939 — 2026

Trent, SD

Vivian A. Haak, 86, of Trent, passed away on March 12, 2026, at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.

Born Vivian Audrey Carlson on October 24, 1939, in Trent, she was the daughter of C. Theodore and Marilda (Pederson) Carlson. She grew up in Trent, graduated from Trent High School in 1957, and began her career as a dental assistant. On November 8, 1959, she married Gerald Haak at the Trent Baptist Church. The couple settled on the Haak family farm, where they raised their four children. Once the children were grown, Vivian worked for the Dell Rapids School District for 17 years, retiring in 2006.

A longtime member of the Reformed Church of Dell Rapids and its Women’s Circle, Vivian found joy in wintering in Arizona, reading, gardening, and tending to her flowers. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lorraine (Ronald) Utech, and her sister-in-law Agnes Carlson. Vivian is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gerald Haak of Trent; her children, Lynelle (Scott) Bieber of Dakota Dunes, Loren (Gina) Haak of Yankton, Gary (Thelma) Haak of Dell Rapids, and Jason (Laurie) Haak of Troy, Ohio; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her brother Roger Carlson of Arizona; her sister Joyce (Clarence) Rave of Wentworth; and her extended family.
