She was born on February 17, 1934 in Lincoln, Nebraska.Raised in Wilbur, Nebraska by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Vilda, Virginia carried with her the values of hard work, resilience, and kindness that shaped her entire life.As a young woman, Virginia met the love of her life, Charles, while he was serving in the United States Air Force in Nebraska. They soon married and began their life together, first moving to Dundee, Michigan, and later settling in Ypsilanti. In 1966, they made their home in Ferndale, Michigan, where they remained together for nearly another fifty year and made countless family memories. Following Charles' passing, Virginia stayed in the home for some time before moving to The James in Ferndale.Professionally, Virginia built a dedicated career as a billing associate, first at Detroit Receiving Hospital and later at Jacobson's department store. She was known for her reliability, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.Community was especially important to Virginia. She was very involved with the Ferndale Senior Center, where she served actively as Treasurer and enthusiastically participated in many outings and activities. The friendships she built there brought her much joy.At home, Virginia found happiness in crafting and gardening. Her yard was a reflection of her creativity and warmth, filled with flowers and her beloved collection of "garden frog" statues that made visitors smile.Virginia will be remembered as the beloved wife of the late Charles. Loving mother of Linda Kern, Cheryl (Dan) Burdakin, and Steven (Marie) Saxton. Proud grandmother of Meghan Beck, Dean Kern, and Nicole Armstrong; and great-grandmother of Nolan, Isla, Fletcher, and Ainsley.Visitation for Virginia will be held on Monday, March 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak.The family kindly requests no flowers.
