Virginia L. "Ginny" Abbott

Virginia “Ginny” L. Abbott, 89, of Upperco, Maryland, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born on January 3, 1937, in Hampstead, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Ethel and Leonard Grote. Ginny was the beloved wife of 67 years to Russell “Bud” Abbott.

A graduate of the second class from the new Hereford High School, Ginny began her working life as a seamstress, crafting custom wedding gowns. She later became a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after thirty years of dedicated service. She found great joy in her flower garden and in tending her lawn. An avid horsewoman, Ginny rode and showed horses, and throughout her life she raised German Shepherd dogs. She cherished watching her granddaughter play softball and show horses, and she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren. Family pool outings and trips to their cabin in Pennsylvania created many lasting memories.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Russell “Bud” Abbott; her daughter, Kimberly Abbott; her grandchildren, Eric Abbott, Jennifer Reachard and her husband Cody; her great-grandchildren, Emma Dietz, Everleigh Abbott, and Knox Reachard; her siblings, Nancy Cullison and David Grote; her daughter-in-law, Dawn Deuber; and longtime family friend Kenita Lemmon. She was predeceased by her sons, Kris Abbott and Kirk Abbott.
