Virginia Kathrine Ebling

Dearborn, MI

Virginia Kathrine Ebling passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026. Born in Dearborn, Michigan on April 15, 1918 to Franjo Horvat “Frank Howard” and Purina Rose Gianolio, she remained a steadfast resident of Dearborn for more than a century. She graduated from Dearborn High School in 1936 and married her lifelong love, George Ebling, Jr., on May 27, 1940, just before he shipped out to serve with the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean during World War II.

Virginia served for many years as office manager at Christ Episcopal Church in Dearborn. She was a gifted and prolific quilter, creating well over one hundred quilts entirely by hand. An avid reader until her final months, she often finished a book a day. She and George shared a deep love of travel, especially the educational Elderhostel programs and other journeys that nourished her lifelong curiosity.

She is survived by her son, Christopher (Karen) Ebling of Parker, Texas, and three grandchildren: George Ebling IV of Mio, Michigan, Ian Ebling of Dallas, Texas, and Allison Ebling (Quentin Mariano) of Dumont, New Jersey. Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Ebling, Jr. in 2008, her son George “Rusty” Ebling III in 2021, her devoted daughter-in-law Stephanie Ebling in 2008, and her dear sister Jeanne Howard Stokes in 2004.
