Preserve forever →Virginia Jane Evans
March 21, 1928— March 12, 2026
Evans, GA
Mrs. Virginia Jane Evans, beloved wife of David, passed away on Thursday morning, March 12, 2026, at her residence. Born in Hicksville, Ohio, as the only child of Allen and Lotus Elliott, Virginia carried a lifelong love for horses and competed in harness racing as a young woman. She was deeply involved in her county fair and, in 2024, received a standing ovation in her hometown for her many contributions.
In the mid-1960s, she married David Evans, the love of her life, and embraced the life of a military wife. Together they traveled the world, raising their family at bases across the globe, where Virginia created warm and loving homes amid the challenges of frequent moves. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and her home became known as the “Christmas House.” Beginning her preparations in September, she filled their space with decorations and displays that radiated joy and tradition. In 2022, she and David were featured on a local news channel for their extensive Christmas Village. For Virginia, Christmas was more than a holiday; it was a year-round feeling of wonder she carried in her heart.
A devoted fan of the NBA, she rarely missed watching her favorite teams, the LA Lakers and the Phoenix Suns, and took special delight in following players like LeBron James and Kevin Durant. She also cherished the music of Elvis Presley and made several pilgrimages to Memphis and Graceland. A faithful member of the Evans Church of Christ and a former member of the Eastern Star, Virginia worked various jobs over the years, including at the International Harvester Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and in clerical positions at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. Yet her most cherished role was that of wife, mother, and grandmother. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 and facing its recurrence in 2005, she met every challenge with courage, determination, and grace, becoming an inspiration to all who knew her.
Virginia is survived by her husband, David; her children, Kerwin Traxler, Tonya Rowland, and David “Herk” Evans, Jr.; her grandchildren, Hudson Rowland (Hannah), Lindsey Rowland, Maycee Wren (Shawn), and Kaitlyn Senasac (William); her great-grandchildren, Hayes Rowland, Dawson Martin, Bailey Spires, Alaina Bell, and Ansley Bell; her former daughter-in-law, Carrie Evans; and her beloved dog, Gage. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Steven Allen Worsham, her aunt Evelyn Counterman, her cousins Lemar Keener, Demar Keener, and Sharon Myers, and her son-in-law John Rowland.
