Virginia Estelle Stewart Tippit, 92, of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died on March 10, 2026, at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital.
Born on May 7, 1933, in Troy, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Odie B. Sampson and the late Ora Ann Lee Sampson. Virginia also found delight in life’s simple pleasures. She loved playing cards with family and friends, and she took great pride in cooking. Her chicken and dressing, banana pudding, homemade biscuits and gravy were family favorites, and she was known for slipping an extra biscuit to anyone who greeted her with a sweet smile.
Virginia attended Cottonwood Baptist Church in Ridgely, where her faith remained an important part of her life. She is survived by her son, James Stewart of Dyersburg; her daughter, Cathy Couch (Charles) of Ruston, Louisiana; two daughters-in-law, Anna Stewart of Ridgely and Freida Hardy of Dyersburg; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and thirteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, R.C. Stewart and Louis Tippit; three sons, Stephen, William, and David Stewart; one daughter, Vicki Stewart; her parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
