Virginia "Ginny" Brown Hyatt

Virginia "Ginny" Brown Hyatt

November 8, 1928 March 11, 2026

St. Johnsbury, VT

Virginia (Ginny) Brown Hyatt, born November 8, 1928, in Patten, Maine, to John and Idella Chamberlain, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2026, at the age of 97.

Ginny lived her entire life in northern New England, never venturing farther south than she felt at home. She cherished the changing seasons, finding quiet joy in fresh snowfall, vibrant fall foliage, and the scent of newly cut grass in spring. Though dementia gradually claimed her recent memories, she drew lasting comfort from the wall of family photographs that surrounded her, allowing her to remain close to the people and moments she held dearest.

Affectionately known as Ginny, she was a longtime resident of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and Littleton, New Hampshire. She retired from Hoveys Shops in St. Johnsbury and was a dedicated multi-gallon Red Cross blood donor. While living in Littleton, she was an active member of the First Congregational Church Ladies Society, generously volunteering at rummage sales, assisting with church renovations, and giving many years of service at Littleton Regional Hospital. Ginny loved her home and took great pleasure in redecorating projects. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, writing poetry, following the Boston Red Sox, and solving crossword puzzles with remarkable skill. She was an accomplished cook and baker, especially known for her exceptional apple pies. Some of her happiest times came during trips back to her beloved Maine and on peaceful Sunday afternoon drives through Vermont and New Hampshire with her husband Bill.

She was predeceased by her parents, eight siblings, her husbands Patrick H. Brown, Roland Warren, and William (Bill) Hyatt, her son Patrick H. Brown Jr., and her granddaughter Leigh Toombs Mann. Ginny is survived by her children Brenda (Frank) Paulin of St. Johnsbury, Ellie (Bob) Toombs of New Bern, North Carolina, Michael Brown of Brooksville, Florida, Richard Brown of St. Johnsbury, Christopher (Cheri) Brown of Williston, Vermont, and daughter-in-law Linda Brown, as well as ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
