Vincent D. Sgroi Jr.

Vincent D. Sgroi Jr., 79, of Cohoes, passed away on March 12, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Albany, Vince was the son of the late Vincent Sgroi Sr. and Mary (Carbo) Sgroi. He graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School and earned degrees in mathematics from Manhattan College and RPI in Troy. While a graduate student at RPI, he taught math for three years, then spent eight years teaching high school mathematics at Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes and at Troy High School. In 1979, he began a career as a Senior Software Engineer at Mechanical Technology, Inc. Nine years later, he joined the N.Y.S. Department of Education, where he designed and managed a statewide computer network. He retired from State Ed. in 2008 after twenty years of service. Vince also volunteered as a Big Brother, served on several parish committees and the Diocesan School Board, and most recently worked as a Literacy Volunteer.

Vince had a deep love of learning and was an avid reader. He enjoyed fishing, solving crossword puzzles, and family vacations. He was proud of his Italian heritage and remained deeply devoted to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sharon (McCredie) Sgroi; his beloved children, Stephanie Jackson (Jeff), Elizabeth Jarosz (Dan), and Michael Sgroi (Nicole); his adored grandchildren, Sophia Jarosz, Daniel Jarosz Jr., Dominick Jarosz, Theresa Jarosz, Gianna Jackson, and Callie Jackson; and his brothers, Gregg Sgroi (Brian) and Frank Sgroi (Marcia). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Anne Marie Sgroi.
